Artistry in every stitch.
If it’s a Danes gown, every detail is perfect.
Robert Danes has been designing high-end, limited-edition womenswear for almost 30 years—catering to the likes of Oprah, Jewel and Courtney Love. From the fourth floor of Bergdorf Goodman and other luxury boutiques, he’s built a reputation for intricate bias-cut gowns that highlight feminine strength in every detail. But the brand identity of The Danes label needed a modern update.
We breathed new life into The Danes by putting Robert’s artistry at the heart of the label. The 45° diagonal line in the new logo pays homage to his bias-cut designs, while a new website and coordinating social campaign display the exquisite detailing of his gowns alongside quotes and behind-the-scenes photography that highlight his process and philosophy.

thedanesnycThe Exuberant Beginnings collection is a fresh start of sorts, but also a return to the essence of the label—the timeless grace I’ve pursued throughout my career.
thedanesnycMeet the Natalie: I chose a gorgeous foiled Italian satin that’s almost leathery in feel. The texture contrasts exquisitely with such a young, sleek, dramatic shape.
thedanesnycI learned early on that coloring outside the lines, and in the wrong colors, is just fine.
thedanesnycAll of my sketching, sewing, draping, and fitting is done by hand in my New York studio. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
thedanesnycMeet the Valentina: A tribute to a dressmaker who I’ve worked with for nearly my entire career. Diagonally pleated chiffon falls off the shoulder and wraps around a skirt composed of 39 fabric pieces in four hues.
thedanesnycMuch like the women who wear them, my gowns are never only one thing.
thedanesnycI’d describe my style as feminine, architectural, and artisanal. There’s a great deal of structure, but it should never overpower the woman wearing it.
thedanesnycMeet the Garbo: An homage to Greta Garbo, who has always been the most beautiful, mysterious icon I know. Iridescent lamè chiffon cascades over a pattern I have evolved over the past few seasons, a variation on a theme.
thedanesnycThe best designs are the ones that have been edited down from exuberant beginnings.
